Early painting by French impressionist painter Auguste Durand Rose entitled "Paysage dans le Vercours". Lovely provincial scene of small mountain Village. Signed bottom right. Has old French gallery label on back.
Painting measures 25.5" h x 32" wide.
Framed dimensions: 32.5" h x 39" wide
Biography:
Born in Marseille in 1887. In 1917 at the age of thirty Auguste Durand-Rosé begins teaching fine arts at the university of Marseille. After several years he moves to Paris where he exhibits regularly in that cities many "Salons" ,and is recognized as a "master of chiaroscuro in the tradition of Caravaggio , also influenced by Rembrandt " . It is in Paris that he gains the admiration and friendship of fellow painter Emile Bernard (Durande -Rose painted his portrait in 1923). He passed away in Paris in 1962.
Works of Auguste Durand-Rosé have been exhibited in galleries throughout Brussels , Vienna , Prague , Warsaw , New York , and Canada.
