Lovely still life with village landscape in the background done in bright orange, yellows and greens by Scottish artist William Grimaud. Oil on Canvas. Signed bottom right. Measures 40" high by 30" wide unframed.
William Grimaud was born in 1942 in Glasgow, Scotland. He studied art at many institutions including the University of Edinburgh, the Slade School in London, the Sorbonne in Paris, and the Studio in Spain where he learned the rudiments of painting and drawing.
Grimaud uses a Post-Impressionistic style in his renderings of beautiful still lifes and landscape paintings. His style is brought to life through his combination of using a vivid palette and naturalistic techniques. Grimaud simplifies objects in the painting through his use of line and then applies impasto in areas throughout the canvas giving texture to the work. Grimaud is often compared to the Fauvist painter Henri Matisse (French, 1869-1954) with his use of bright, vibrant colors and attention to line. Grimaud's works are included in galleries around the world and in a number of prestigious private collections in the United States. He has exhibited his works in Paris, London, Switzerland, and New York.
